ABP Garston – A New Friend Arrives

Cooper Specialised Handling Ltd, the sales arm of Cooper Group Holdings Ltd, has announced the arrival of the first of two Mantsinen 120M Hybrilift into the ABP Port of Garston near Liverpool. ABP Garston has been the home of a larger Mantsinen 200M Hybrilift delivered back in 2017.

Situated on the north bank of the River Mersey, the Port of Garston is seven miles from Liverpool’s city centre. The port benefits from easy links to the M56, M62, and M6, making it a natural gateway to the industrial heartlands of Northwest England and the surrounding counties. Garston specialises in handling a wide array of cargo, from dry bulks to steel products and handles around 500,000 tonnes of cargo each year.

The new Mantsinen 120M Hybrilift arrived by road in 7 trailers and have been built-up by Cooper’s engineering team prior to final handover to the customer. The machine is powered by a Volvo 13 litre turbo diesel, HVO compliant EU stage V engine and comes supplied with a 14m boom and 12m stick to fully cater for any vessel that can pass through the lock gates at Garston. The machine is also supplied with extra-large pads to distribute the ground pressure during the loading process. The slew ring is mounted at 5.7m high and the pylon is surrounded by a 360-degree access platform that enables the operator to park the machine in any position for safe access and dismounting. The cab is the renowned Mantsinen pantograph cab-riser that enables the operator to place the cab over the hold for direct-line-of sight.

Brian McFarlane, ABP’s Port Manager said: “This arrival marks a significant milestone for ABP. We have seen notable growth at the Port of Garston with new or returning businesses and the creation of a number of jobs here at the Port for both ABP and our customers since January. This latest purchase is part of ABP’s ongoing investment programme to continually enhance and expand our offer whilst ensuring we have the right equipment to support our customers and bring growth to the area.”

On behalf of Cooper Specialised Handling, David Cooper, Executive Director stated “The 200M when it landed in Garston was, at the time, the largest hydraulic crane in the country and quickly gained a reputation inside the port and beyond for its reliability, capacity, comfort, and productivity. The new machines, whilst smaller, will be no less productive, and we have purposely dimensioned them to be close to the 200M for familiarity purposes.”

The second 120M is expected to arrive to Garston in July 2022.
