Cooper Rental fleet invests in first full intermodal SANY reachstacker

Cooper Specialised Handling Ireland Ltd, the rental and after-sales arm of Cooper Group Holdings Ltd, has announced a significant investment in their ever-growing reachstacker short-term rental fleet.

The fleet probably already represents the largest dedicated reachstacker rental fleet in the UK and all machines are purchased new with latest specification and low emission engines specifically for the purpose of short-term rental. However, the fleet mainly consists of general purpose 4531G or H9 equivalent ‘yard-stacking’ machines with a typical 31 tonne second container row capability. The new machine investment however represents the first full intermodal machine to enter the STR fleet. The new model Sany 4540G5-S is a brand new 7m wheelbase machine with support jacks specifically built around the needs of intermodal terminals where container road traffic meets rail with the ability to lift a fully laden container over the first rail track onto the second rail track. This distance can be as much as 6.5m in front of wheels. It is estimated less than 20% of the country’s reachstacker requirements are for intermodal machines.

Commenting on behalf of Coopers, Luke Maslin, Operations Director said “It is a brave move to purchase a new machine solely for the opportunity market that exists in the intermodal sector but we felt this was the next logical step in our progression” Luke continues “from time to time we have been frustrated at our inability to fulfil customer’s requirements for intermodal STR capability but not only does this move plug that hole, it also further demonstrates Cooper’s commitment to fulfil the needs of its customers and being a complete solutions provider. We will be announcing further extensions of the scope of our rental fleet in the coming weeks”

The new Sany 4540G5-S will be ready supplied with an EU stage 5 engine, air conditioning, the Sany ‘fast-jack’ front stabiliser feet as well as the Sany moveable counterweight that enhances machine capacity without the need of jack deployment.

The new machine is expected in March and its first short-term rental has already been secured
