Cooper Specialised Handling, the UK’s premier independent port equipment supply specialist, has confirmed the delivery and commissioning of two Mantsinen hydraulic cranes to The Victoria Group. Cooper supplied one Mantsinen 200M to the Port of Boston on the east coast and a 120R to Mersey Wharf on the west coast. Furthermore, in the second such delivery of its type for Coopers, the Mantsinen 200M machine was delivered in one-piece.
The Victoria Group is a leading independent operator whose six important port facilities, are strategically located to serve the South East region, South West, the Midlands to the Heart of England, the North and Scotland. Additionally, through Sanders Stevens and Amundsen & Smith, the Victoria Group offers a full range of professional ships agency and brokering services.
The Victoria Group’s Mersey Wharf at Bromborough, Wirral has two operational berths and can handle ships up to 7,500 tonnes. The 16-acre site has extensive open storage areas and 12,500 square metres of covered storage suitable for both bulk and general cargo.
The new 120R has been specified to handle to and from various size vessels up to 18 metres beam and is supplied with a 13m curved boom and 11m stick offering 23m horizontal outreach. The slew ring is mounted at 5.2m high by virtue of a pylon extension, optimising crane performance and, with the Mantsinen N2-5000 cab riser, providing unrivalled driver visibility deep into the vessel hold.
The Port of Boston is located on the Wash, on the East Coast of England, the port can handle vessels of up to 120m in length. There are 18,000 square metres of warehousing and this port facility is ideally equipped to handle bulk cargo and to handle break bulk commodities safely and efficiently. The facility also benefits from rail connectivity offering access to the midlands and the national rail network.
The new 200M is yet further evidence of hydraulic cranes encroaching deeper into MHC territory for the throughput advantages they bring. The machine in Boston is a wheeled machine mounted on 5-axles and 20 rubber tyres. Weighing in at 260 tonnes, the machine has been specified with a 13.5m curved boom and 11m stick, offering 23m horizontal outreach. The slew ring is mounted at 4.2m high supported by dual equaliser pads significantly reducing operating ground pressure. The 200M is a 50T capacity crane to handle steel strip coil from 16m beam vessels however, this increased lift capacity provides scope for greater bulk handling throughput as required with the supply of a 10m3 clamshell grab.
Cooper have specified the Boston machine with a ‘quick-hitch’ MC720 rotator, which facilitates the easy interchanging of tools. Crane operators will be able to switch between clamshell buckets, coil clamps and anchor hooks in approximately two minutes.
Speaking on behalf of Cooper SH, Chris Barnes, Sales Director said “Victoria Group represents a major port operator in the UK, and we are delighted to be able to complete this supply into two highly strategic locations” Chris continued “The Mantsinen population in the UK grows ever larger and we are becoming renowned for our ability to supply large cranes with tailor-made solutions”
Victoria Group, added: “We have been aware of the speed and precision advantages of the Mantsinen option and these acquisitions follow an extensive study to view various machines in operation. We look forward to putting both machines through their paces in so we can fulfil the greater needs of our customers”
The 200M was delivered as a complete unit having been assembled in Mantsinen’s assembly facility in Rauma on Finland’s West coast. The sub-assemblies were manufactured in Mantsinen’s production facility in Liperi, Central-East Finland but final assembly and function testing was completed in Rauma this facilitating a direct port-to-port sailing, with trans-shipment in Holland.
