September – Movella ‘R’ Series Translifter (The Shifter)
So, a translifter is just an expensive and fancy trailer, right? Wrong – translifters are products which, when you use in conjunction with a creative mind, can resolve all manner of handling issues for long, bulky and heavy loads. Whilst the name Movella maybe new on most, the people behind the products are arguably the most experienced translifter people in the industry and, originating from Finland, there can be no surprises there!
The ‘R’ Series range are Movella’s mid-range of translifters capable of handling payloads anything from 50 tonnes up to 140 tonnes and is most commonly used in industry and in port environments. The larger capacity ‘I’ series extends the scope further by allowing payloads of 240 tonnes.
Most commonly used in conjunction with cassettes or trestles, the translifter can be tailor-made against customer’s specific requirements in any length ranging from 6m to 25 metres. Cassettes remain a popular and cost-effective method of transport and storage and can withstand rough handling due to their basic construction. They also are recognised as being space efficient in that they can be block-stacked unlike trailers that demand access for lashing.
The ‘R’ series is equipped with 2, 4 or 6 axles, depending on payload, with one bogie each carrying 2 axles which float around a mechanical pendulum to ensure all load is spread across all wheels regardless of ground conditions. Steering can be activated by transport steering where bogies turn in opposite directions to reduce turning radii,; in joystick steering to incorporate crab steering in tight manoeuvres or, when into a cassette, adopt automatic steering where sensors automatically correct the translifter to the centre-line of the cassette.
Perhaps most importantly, all Movella products tackles head-on the technical issues suffered on earlier translifters resulting in a strengthening of the important areas such as bogie construction, more robust lift cylinders and a remarkable 70% reduction in hydraulic lines.
The ‘R’ Series is as comfortable in RoRo and Sto-Ro handling as it is in heavy industry and project cargo. The ‘R’ series can be supplied with an optional tipping function and/or a retractable roof for weather-sensitive payloads.
